Author's Guideline
1. General Provisions
HERITAGE: Journal of Social Studies accepts scholarly manuscripts relevant to the journal's focus and scope, including Social Sciences (IPS) education integrated with Islamic values, social science education, and social science studies. Manuscripts must make a clear scientific contribution to the development of educational theory, methods, practices, or understanding of social phenomena.
Submitted manuscripts must comply with the provisions of these guidelines and use the journal's official template. Authors are responsible for ensuring that the manuscript meets the requirements for substance, format, originality, and publication ethics.
2. Manuscript Types
HERITAGE accepts the following types of manuscripts according to the journal's focus and scope:
Empirical research articles, namely articles that present the results of field research, surveys, experiments, case studies, archival research, or other empirical approaches.
Conceptual or theoretical articles, namely articles that develop, critique, compare, or synthesize concepts and theories based on scientific arguments and relevant literature.
Literature review articles, namely articles that present a critical synthesis of scholarly literature using clear methods of searching, selecting, and analyzing sources appropriate to the type of review.
Theory Application Articles, namely articles that apply theory or conceptual frameworks to analyze educational or social phenomena and produce clear scientific implications.
Each manuscript must demonstrate novelty or scientific contribution, have an adequate literature base, use accountable methods or arguments, and present relevant implications. The type of manuscript accepted must be consistent with the Focus and Scope section and the manuscript categories in the OJS submission system.
3. Originality and Submission Requirements
Submitted manuscripts must be the author's original work, have not been previously published in a scientific publication that violates the dual publication requirements, and are not currently under consideration for publication by another journal.
Authors must:
Declare that the manuscript is original and is not being processed for publication elsewhere.
Ensure that all sources, data, ideas, quotations, tables, figures, and other materials have been acknowledged or used in accordance with applicable regulations.
Disclose if the manuscript is an extension of a thesis, dissertation, research report, conference paper, or other relevant previous publication.
Explain differences and new contributions if the manuscript has a substantial relationship with published or work in progress.
Ensure that all authors have approved the submitted version of the manuscript and agree to its submission to HERITAGE.
Adhere to journal policies regarding authorship, plagiarism, conflicts of interest, the use of artificial intelligence, and research ethics.
The journal reserves the right to conduct preliminary and similarity checks on manuscripts. The percentage of similarity is not the sole basis for decision-making; the assessment also considers context, type of citation, appropriate sources, and indications of ethical violations.
4. Manuscript Length and Language
Full manuscripts are recommended to be 6,000–8,000 words long. This word count should consistently follow the journal's guidelines. To avoid misinterpretation, journal management should determine whether the word count includes the abstract, references, tables, figures, and appendices.
Manuscripts can be written in English. Authors must use clear, consistent, and academic language in accordance with the applicable language standards. Manuscripts requiring language revision may be returned to the authors for revision before or during the editorial process.
5. Manuscript Format and Template
Manuscripts must be prepared using Microsoft Word and saved in .doc or .docx format. Authors must use the official HERITAGE template available on the journal website.
Basic formatting requirements:
A4 paper size.
Layout, margins, font type, font size, spacing, page numbering, and title format must follow the journal's official template.
Titles, subtitles, paragraphs, tables, figures, and references must be arranged consistently.
Tables and figures must be numbered and captioned informatively and referenced in the text.
Figures must be of adequate publication quality and must be acknowledged if they are not the author's original work.
Equations, abbreviations, symbols, and technical terms must be explained where necessary.
Manuscripts must be reviewed to ensure they contain no editorial comments, tracked changes, or information not intended for inclusion in the submission.

6. Title, Author Identification, Abstract, and Keywords
Title
The title should be concise, informative, reflect the topic and purpose of the article, and should not use unusual abbreviations. The title should be written in the language of the manuscript and follow the formatting of the journal template.
Author Identification
The full names of all authors should be listed without academic titles, along with their institutional affiliations, city, country, and email address. Authors should designate a corresponding author who will be responsible for communication with the editor during the editorial process and after publication.
Authors are encouraged to include the ORCID iD if available. The author order should reflect the agreed-upon contributions. Changes to the order, additions, or deletions of authors after submission may only be made through a written request approved by all corresponding authors and considered by the editor.
Abstract
The abstract should be 200–250 words long, written in a single paragraph unless the template specifies a structured format, and should contain the following elements, depending on the type of article:
Background or research problem.
Aim of the research or purpose of the article.
Methods or approaches used.
Main findings or synthesis results.
Conclusions and scientific contribution.
The abstract must be understandable on its own, free from unnecessary citations, and must not include information not discussed in the manuscript.
Keywords
Each manuscript should include a maximum of five keywords representing the main concepts, variables, approaches, or context of the research. Keywords should not simply repeat the entire title. Keywords should be written according to the journal template.
7. Article Structure
The structure of the manuscript should be adapted to the type of article.
A. Empirical Research Article
Empirical research articles generally consist of:
Introduction, which explains the problem context, research gaps, a review of relevant literature, objectives, and contributions of the study.
Research Methodology, which explains the design, context or location, population and sample or participants, data sources, instruments, data collection procedures, analysis techniques, and ethical considerations where relevant.
Research Results, which present the findings systematically and supported by adequate data.
Discussion, which interprets the findings, compares them with previous research, explains the contributions, and outlines the implications and limitations of the study.
Conclusion, which answers the research objectives or questions and summarizes the main contributions without simply repeating the results.
Ethics statement, funding, conflict of interest, author contributions, data availability, and acknowledgements where relevant and required.
References.
The results and discussion sections may be combined if appropriate to the article design and journal template requirements.
B. Conceptual or Theoretical Article
A conceptual article should include an introduction, theoretical basis or conceptual framework, a structured analytical discussion, contributions or concept development, implications, conclusions, and references. Arguments should be supported by relevant scientific sources and demonstrate a synthesis or critical analysis, not simply a summary of the opinions of other authors.
C. Literature Review Article
A literature review article should explain the purpose of the review, the source search strategy, inclusion and exclusion criteria, where relevant, the analytical or synthesis approach, the review results, discussion, conclusions, and implications. For systematic reviews, authors should report procedures transparently and use reporting guidelines appropriate to the type of review.
D. Theory Application Article
A theory application article should explain the theory used, the rationale for selecting the theory, the context of the phenomenon analyzed, the application or analysis procedure, the results of the reasoning, the theoretical or practical contributions, and conclusions. The structure can be adjusted to suit the characteristics of the article.
8. Citations and Reference List
In-text citations and reference lists must follow a single referencing style officially established by HERITAGE. If the journal continues to use APA 6th edition, all manuscripts must be consistent with that edition. If the journal decides to switch to a different edition, the changes must be applied uniformly to the guidelines, templates, and editing process.
Authors must:
Cite the source for every direct quotation, idea, data, or finding from another source.
Ensure that every in-text citation is included in the reference list and that every entry in the reference list is referenced in the text, unless a specific format explicitly allows for exceptions.
Check the accuracy of author names, year, title, journal name, volume, number, page or article number, and DOI or URL, if available.
Prioritize primary sources and relevant and up-to-date scholarly literature, without neglecting classic works that are important to the argument.
Avoid irrelevant citations, citation manipulation, and the addition of references solely to increase the number of citations.
Ensure that all cited sources have been thoroughly read and support the statements made.
Authors are encouraged to use a reference manager to ensure consistent citations. The use of a reference management application does not relieve the author of the responsibility to check the accuracy of each entry.
9. Research Ethics and Data Integrity
Authors are responsible for ensuring that research is conducted and reported honestly, transparently, accurately, and responsibly.
For research involving humans, students, interviews, surveys, vulnerable groups, or personal data, authors must explain relevant ethical considerations. If the research requires ethics committee approval, authors must include the name of the approving institution and the approval number and/or year, as required by applicable regulations.
If formal ethics approval is not required or applicable to a particular type of research, authors must explain the basis for such exceptions, if relevant. Authors must also ensure that participant consent, confidentiality, and data protection are implemented as needed for the research.
Data, figures, tables, and analysis results must not be fabricated, falsified, manipulated in a misleading manner, or presented in a manner that alters the meaning of the findings. Limitations of methods and data must be reported honestly.

10. Use of Artificial Intelligence
The use of generative artificial intelligence tools or automation technology in manuscript preparation must comply with HERITAGE's AI policy.
Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, validity, and integrity of all manuscript content. Authors are required to check facts, citations, data, analyses, and references generated or assisted by AI tools. AI cannot be listed as an author.
The use of AI to generate or modify scientific material must be transparently disclosed in accordance with journal policy. Disclosure should at least explain the name of the tool, the purpose of its use, and the part of the work assisted, if required by the policy. The use of language tools or spellchecking tools must comply with the specific provisions of the journal's AI policy.
AI must not be used to create false data, research results, citations, or references. Authors must not incorporate personal data, confidential material, or sensitive information into AI services without proper authorization.
11. Authorship, Contributions, and Conflicts of Interest
All authors must meet HERITAGE's authorship criteria and make substantive contributions to the research or preparation of the article. All authors must approve the final manuscript and be accountable for their contributions.
Parties providing only administrative, funding, or technical support who do not meet the criteria for authorship may be mentioned in the acknowledgements with their consent.
Authors must disclose any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest that might reasonably influence the research, interpretation of results, or writing of the article. If no conflict of interest exists, the author must explicitly state that there is no conflict of interest.
The source of funding and the role of the funder in the study design, data collection, analysis, writing, or decision to publish must be disclosed where relevant. Further details follow HERITAGE's authorship, author contributions, funding, and conflicts of interest policy.
12. Manuscript Examination and Review Process
Every manuscript received through OJS will undergo an initial review by an editor to assess its suitability to the journal's focus and scope, completeness of requirements, basic academic quality, and adherence to publication ethics.
Manuscripts that meet the initial requirements may be forwarded to the peer review process in accordance with HERITAGE's official policies. Reviews are conducted by experts competent in the relevant field, not solely by the editorial team. The review model, management of anonymity, and decision-making procedures must comply with the journal's published Peer Review Process policy.
Editorial decisions can be accepted, revised, or rejected. The editor considers the scientific quality, relevance, originality, methods or argumentation, review results, and publication ethics. Submission of a manuscript does not guarantee acceptance or publication.
If revisions are requested, authors must submit the revised manuscript along with responses to the editor's and/or reviewer's comments within the stated deadline. If an extension is required, the author should contact the editor. The editor may request additional revisions or make a different decision based on the evaluation results.
13. Manuscript Submission via OJS
Manuscript submissions are made through the online journal management system (Open Journal Systems/OJS) on the official HERITAGE website. Authors must create an account or log in to a registered account, select the manuscript submission menu, fill in the metadata completely, upload the file, and complete each submission step.
Before submitting a manuscript, authors must ensure that:
The manuscript aligns with the focus and scope of HERITAGE.
The manuscript follows the latest guidelines and templates.
The metadata for the title, abstract, keywords, author names, affiliations, and email addresses match those in the manuscript.
All authors have approved the submitted version of the manuscript.
The required declaration of originality and disclosure has been met.
The file is open and does not contain any unnecessary information.
Additional documents, such as ethics statements, supporting documents, or other documentation, have been prepared if required by the journal.
Authors are responsible for maintaining access to their OJS account and monitoring editorial communications through the system and the registered email address.

14. Revision, Editing, and Publication
Authors must respond to editors' and reviewers' comments systematically, politely, and based on scientific argumentation. Any substantive changes must be identified in the revised manuscript or explained in the response document.
Received manuscripts may undergo editing for language, formatting, metadata, references, and layout. Authors are responsible for reviewing the final results or proofs submitted by the journal's editors within the specified deadline.
Substantial changes after the acceptance decision must be approved by the editor. Approval for publication does not relieve the author of responsibility for the accuracy of the data, ethics, and content of the article.
The dates of submission, revision, acceptance, and publication are recorded according to the journal's editorial system and displayed on the article where applicable by HERITAGE.
15. Publication Fees, Open Access, and Copyright
Information regarding submission, processing, and publication fees should be referred to the official HERITAGE fee policy page.
Open access, copyright, licenses, and author rights provisions must comply with official HERITAGE policies. Authors are expected to read these policies before submitting a manuscript.
16. Related Editorial and Ethics Policies
In addition to following these guidelines, authors are required to read and comply with relevant HERITAGE policies, including:
Authorship criteria and author contribution policy.
Plagiarism and redundant publication policy.
Artificial intelligence policy.
Conflict of interest policy.
Research misconduct policy.
Ethics approval and research oversight policy.
Corrections, retractions, and post-publication discussion policy.
Peer review policy.
Copyright, licensing, open access, and publication fees policy.
These policies are part of HERITAGE's scientific publication governance and must be consistently implemented by authors, editors, and other stakeholders.
