Authorship Criteria

Heritage: Journal of Social Studies is committed to applying the principles of transparency, fairness, accountability, and academic integrity in determining authorship. This policy adheres to the ethical principles of scientific publication and the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. Authorship Criteria

An individual may be listed as an author if they meet all of the following criteria:

Substantive contribution: Making a significant contribution to the conceptualization, research design, methodology development, data collection, analysis, interpretation of results, or other substantive scientific aspects.

Authorship and revision: Participating in drafting the manuscript or critically revising the intellectual substance of the article.

Final manuscript approval: Reading and approving the final version of the manuscript submitted for publication.

Accountability: Accepting responsibility for their contributions and helping to ensure that any questions regarding the accuracy, integrity, and ethics of the research are appropriately addressed.

All individuals listed as authors must meet these criteria. Those who contribute but do not meet all the requirements for authorship may be listed in the Acknowledgments section with their consent.

2. Author Responsibilities and Contributions

All authors are responsible for the integrity of their contributions and must ensure that the manuscript accurately presents research results, appropriately cites sources, and adheres to research and publication ethics.

The corresponding author is responsible for coordinating communication with the editor, ensuring that all authors agree to the submitted manuscript and the order of authorship, and ensuring that the names and affiliations of the authors are stated completely and correctly.

Authors are required to clearly provide information about their individual contributions. If adopted by the journal, author contributions can be described using the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT).

3. Unethical Authorship

Heritage: Journal of Social Studies does not permit the practice of gift authorship, which involves the inclusion of the name of an individual who does not meet the criteria for authorship, or ghost authorship, which involves the omission of the name of an individual who should be acknowledged as an author.

The mere provision of funding, academic positions, general supervision, administrative assistance, or technical support does not automatically confer authorship. Contributors who do not meet all criteria may be acknowledged in the acknowledgements section with their consent.

4. Authorship Order and Changes

Authorship order must be determined based on scientific contributions and the agreement of all authors before submission.

Requests to add, delete, or change authorship after submission must be accompanied by a clear rationale and written approval from all affected authors, including the authors being added or deleted. The journal may suspend the editorial process until such requests are reviewed and resolved.

5. Authorship Disputes and Ethical Violations

Allegations of misconduct or disputes regarding authorship will be handled fairly, objectively, and confidentially in accordance with the journal's publication ethics procedures.

The editor may request an explanation, statement of contributions, supporting documentation, or confirmation from the author's affiliated institution. If necessary, the journal may refer unresolved disputes or suspected misconduct to the relevant institution.

Editorial decisions and corrective actions are based on available evidence and applicable ethical principles for scientific publication.

6. Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Artificial intelligence (AI), including generative AI and large language models, cannot be listed as authors because they cannot assume the responsibility and accountability required of human authors.

Authors are required to disclose the use of AI in the preparation of the manuscript or the creation of scientific content in accordance with the journal's AI policy. Authors remain fully responsible for verifying the accuracy of AI-generated content, ensuring proper source attribution, and preventing plagiarism, fabrication of information, and other forms of research ethics violations.

The use of AI by editors and reviewers is governed by a separate AI policy established by the journal.

By submitting a manuscript to Heritage: Journal of Social Studies, all authors certify that the authorship information provided is accurate, the authorship order has been mutually agreed upon, all authors agree to the submission of the manuscript, and each agrees to carry out their responsibilities in accordance with the journal's policies.
